“Ah,” Jack said, frowning down at his notepad on which he’d written some of her suggestions. Potions, serums, behavioral therapy, trauma … “I’m not sure if I can convince him to come to be examined, but perhaps his sister would be able to. Dr. Brooks, is it? I’ll remember that.” He tapped his pen lightly against his notepad. “Without examining him, though, would it be possible to reverse the effects?”

image

“Maybe so but again I wouldn’t be able to give an accurate diagnosis unless the specific person was here. I understand that it would be hard to convince them to come to the clinic but his sister would be of more help to speak to in the meantime.” she explained and nodded when he had mentioned her surname “It’s hard to tell. To get the best results you’d need to pinpoint what the cause is in order to be able to apply the correct method of treatment”

“Good” Noah said, it was the standard answer to the standard question. Most people weren’t looking for any in depth answers when asking how someone had been, not even most of those in the medical profession. At least that had been in Noah’s experience. At the request of his shirt removal, Noah inhaled, hesitating a moment before removing it. This wasn’t the first or last time he’d have to in a place like this, but even so he always had that moment of feeling uncomfortable to expose his scars to the world, even if the doctors, nurses, and a few of the other staff had seen them before. “They looked worse” he said glancing down at the bruises that had started to turn to more of a bluish shade.

“Good, I’m glad you’re doing better” she smiled and jotted down some notes on the file for future reference and for the other doctors in the clinic. Ellie busied herself with washing her hands while Noah was removing his shirt. “Don’t worry, it’s okay. If you feel uncomfortable at any moment just let me know and I’ll stop.” she said soothingly. Ellie moved next to his ribs and inspected the bruising. She placed her fingertips on his skin and applied slight pressure to feel if the tissue swelling had went down - which thankfully it had. “Your rib is almost healed, another week of applying an ice pack and rest sound have it sorted by then…and no heavy lifting” she advised and checked over the rest of the bruising “I can heal the bruises up for you today and even your scars if you wish.” she offered with a smile as she could sense he seemed uncomfortable with them on display “Your stitches also look like they’ve healed great and those can come out today too”

Jack moved to sit when she offered the seat to him. “It’s about one of the hybrids. He was taken in by the FBI as a suspect of the murders that occurred here, and now he’s returned on house arrest, but according to his sister his personality has completely changed. What could be the cause of this? In your medical opinion.” He poised his pen to write down her reply, watching her closely.

image

“Oh my, really? Um well in order to properly tell you a professional medical opinion I would need to examine the hybrid in question” Ellie contemplated what could react such a change within someone “There’s a number of reasons that could be the result. Potions or serums, a type of cognitive behavioural therapy or it could be something along the lines of a traumatic experience or a motivating factor that could trigger some sort of change. But as I said, I wouldn’t be able to give an accurate opinion without examining the patient”

He had been keeping an eye on the other doctors around the clinic since they were all far too busy these days, but Beau couldn’t help but his eyes moving to catch Ellie over now and again. The poor woman was exhausted and to give her credit he had never heard a peep of a complaint from her. It was easy for him to forget that not everyone around town was immortal and didn’t require sleep. Looking at her now on her way to deal with a patient, he couldn’t help but feel protective over her. She was someone that didn’t have a bad bone in their body, who only wanted to help people.

Beau waited until she was finished with her patient, leaning against the main reception desk. He was talking with another one of the doctors in the process of working out next weeks schedule for shifts.

Ellie found that being an Ardana was a blessing when it came to her being a doctor. She didn’t have to send people out of town for treatment considering she had healing abilities. A broken leg was her job for this afternoon and it would take no longer than ten to fifteen minutes to fix. She had to sedate the patient before the healing process or there would have been howling screams of agony echoing from the clinic and the last thing any of the staff here needed was the guards bounding in and turning the place upside down.

As expected, it took no time at all to heal and she had asked one of the nurses to move the patient to another room until they woke up. Gathering up her paperwork, she signed the required forms while she walked into the reception to drop them into one of the filing cabinet drawers. “Sorry don’t mind me, i just want to get these away before I finish up for the day” she apologised as she walked into the middle of Beau and another staff member talking about shifts.

“I had a question,” Jack said, standing in the room with his digital recorder out in one hand and his pad and pen in the other. He set the recorder on the counter, so he could pick up the pen and poise to write. “You’re a doctor, correct? Are you well versed in the medical field?” He needed to know if his and Nixie’s theory about what was happening to Felix was medically sound, if it was even possible. And who better to ask than a supernatural doctor?

image

“Okay, I hope I can be of some help to you” she said and sat down, offering the spare seat to him. “Yes I’m a doctor here and yes I would say so considering the amount of work i had to do to become said doctor.” Ellie smiled “I’m sorry but what is this about? Is there an issue your wanted advice about?”

“Hey” he lifted his hand up a little in a wave from the exam table he was sitting on. He always felt like a little kid on them with how his legs dangled over the sides. “I’m supposed to have a check up, see how my everything is healing from an incident a few weeks ago. I think I’m supposed to get stitches out today too, I didn’t exactly keep track of that on the calendar”

image

“Oh hi Noah, how have you been?” she smiled and read over his file and placed it down on the worktop “Yeah, so last time you were here you had a cracked rib, bruising and stitches, but you obviously already knew that.” Ellie wandered over to the sink and washed her hands before putting on a pair of gloves “If you don’t mind I’d like to see how the bruising is healing and I’ll check your rib at the same time and once that is done I can check over your stitches to make sure they are all good to come out. So if you’re happy for me to do that can you please take off your shirt and lay down on the exam table”

Ellie had been run off her feet as of late at the clinic and the already limited staff had taken to helping out at the blood bank. The clinic covered the basics of the usual check ups, illnesses and minor injuries and they all seemed to be thriving lately. The plus side was that she was’t restricted with her abilities when it came to the workplace.

However, the extra hours teamed up with her constant studying was beginning to take its toll on her. Ellie covered her mouth as she let out a yawn while she was filling out paperwork, checking her watch she realised that she had an appointment. Heading out to the main foyer, she got the clipboard from the reception and made her way into one of the rooms in the clinic “Hi I’m Ellie, I’ll be your doctor for today. How can I help?”

“you can’t help but feel a little on edge around here these days” she sighed and looked into the content of her coffee cup. The murder had shaken the town to it’s very core and even to Aoife it was obvious that people were more affected than they were letting on.

image

“Of course, it’s only natural.” Ellie nodded in agreement and took a sip of her coffee “No one expected something like this to happen. I tried to pull her back but I couldn’t, she was already gone”

There was so much blood. Honey’s blood. Pack blood. In the middle of the horror scene sat a girl Jaymes had never seen before. A feeling of glass shattering reverberated in Jaymes’ chest with the woman’s words. “I-” Jaymes cut herself off. She had no real words, it was like nothing existed but this place, nothing had ever happened other then the bloodshed here. Jaymes dropped to her knees and took the other girl’s hands, “I know you did. You have nothing to apologize for unless you know who did this. And I don’t honestly think you do.”

image

She couldn’t save the girl but the best she could do was stop the blood pouring out of her body and to clear up some of the wounds as best as she could. “I’m sorry I couldn’t pull her back from the light and it was too late to get her to the clinic. I have no idea who would do something like this.” she sighed and shook her head, lifting her eyes to meet the alphas “What a cruel and ugly thing to do to such an innocent girl.” Ellie could feel the pain of the loss to the pack, a loss to the town. “She’ll need to go to the clinic for a coroners report, we’ll be able to try and narrow down the species from the attack”

image

“I-I tried to help…I tried to save her” she stuttered while looking down at her shaking crimson stained hands “H-Her soul was already too far gone for me to be able to pull her back. I’m so sorry”
